As the title says, did you have much trouble with the final boss ?
I didn't since my party was pretty much overleveled at that point. He did manage to beat me once regardless but then I buffed up my party fully and wrecked him. However, some people have struggled with him and said that this boss presented a big difficulty spike. I can only imagine many of these players skipped most of the optional side content.

The last battle is meant to be a puzzle fight. You can:
  • Use Break Damage Limit weapons to deal more damage than he can heal per turn
  • Zombie him to reverse the effect of curative items and spells on him
  • Cast Reflect on him so the Curaga bounces onto your party
  • Use Doom on him
  • Use Doublecast to deal more damage than he can heal
  • Keep the Yu Pagodas incapacitated while Yu Yevon whittles down his own HP with his Gravija
  • Use Magic Break+Shell on him to reduce Yu Yevon's healing power to ~2700 HP healed with Curaga
The puzzle nature of the battle could be coupled with PimpnCereal's excellent review on using the game's battle system as a thematic and story telling device. Yu Yevon is an entity that is not meant to be easily defeated despite his physical weakness, and the party must use their cunning to defeat Sin and him without the Final Aeon.

It's not that enjoyable a battle though, the aeon portion also being cumbersome; it just goes on too long I think, Braska's Final Aeon is already pretty lengthy if you are just doing a normal no frills playthrough.

It took me a getting to beat him, it wasn't a smooth fight ride for me in the first couple of days probably because I was having a hard time with some personal stuff but once I was free from my psychological issues, I gave him the beating of the century. It was a good fight though not that I'm boasting.

Funny how those psychological issues can have an impact on you when you think that they might not. Glad to see you overcame that one though and gave the guy what he deserved.

Yeah mate, I glad that I had to put to bed the personal stuffs chewing at me and making me lose my playing focus. It really affected me in so many other things that I was involved with and not just playing Final Fantasy trying to take out the Final boss but once I regained my full self, it was a smooth ride to eliminating him.

Thanks for the tip.

Hi everyone just to inquire, is the last battle with the final boss against Yu Yevon or against Braska? That was a little bit challenging for me to know which fight was last.

I grinded and maxed the stats of each character so I will have better stats. Also I want my inventory to be full of healing items and potions so I won't easily die. I am not a speed runner so I take things slowly but surely.

I just cast a reflect of him and that was it, although, I think that this was the worst Final Fantasy final boss ever. I mean they could have at least put a little bit more effort to make this fight worthwhile.
